Air Engine
As a team
The challenge was set.
In a team of 5, members must manufacture engine components from engineering drawings to the correct specification. Once assembled, the engine is tested for performance and smoothness.
Spliting up THE work
Time is the biggest challenge of this project.
Different engine components require different manufacturing processes. This required quick planning and decision making as a team, working to the strength of different members when allocating roles, to make the most of the short time frame.
MY ROLE
I was mostly working on the lathe as I was responsible for components such as the cylinder, piston, thread pin, bearing, flywheel, etc.
Final assembly AND TESTING
The engine gets assembled and prepared for testing.Â
In testing, the engine had good performance and was one of the best performers compared to others.
Reflection
This project gave the opportunity to practice quick planning and decision making. Looking back, the early actions of splitting up the work effectively contributed greatly to the project's success.
It was also a nice experience to learn and try new manufacturing processes, like in previous projects. Being able to visualize and understand the process along with its limitations will be highly beneficial in future projects.
